Lunenberg, Nova Scotia, Canada

A new house for private clients, designed to take advantage of its stunning coastal site.

This unique home is a contemporary interpretation of the vernacular architecture of the region, of farm and fishing buildings and the timber houses of Lunenberg. Sited on the crest of a hill, overlooking a World Heritage harbour town to the northeast and open sea to the southwest. To make the most of this beautiful location, the house has been carefully placed, oriented and designed to have a stunning view from every room. It is traditionally constructed, entirely timber framed and Cedar clad. Heating is from a ground-source heat pump. The triple height entrance tower leads to a gallery over the double height living room, and incorporates a library with the best view over the harbour. The master bedroom and study command views over the open sea with, guest bedrooms at a lower level open out the sloping garden.
